Queen Dolley, The Life and Times of Dolley Madison is historical fiction at its very best. Dolley Madison was one of the most influential and glamorous women of her time — raised a Quaker, she was still a hostess without equal. Dolley's romance and marriage as a 22-year-old widow to a man many years her senior — James Madison who would become the fourth President of the United States — is told with authentic and rich detail. Readers will be enthralled by the story of the enduring love between Dolley and “Jemmy” as it plays out during one of the most momentous periods in American history. Ongoing national crises, rare domestic interludes, and the triumphs and disappointments of Dolley's life are told with accuracy and poignancy. Among the many events detailed is the burning of the White House in 1814 where Dolley risks her life saving the Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington and other priceless treasures. Chronicled throughout Queen Dolley is the life-long and fascinating relationship between the Madison’s and Thomas Jefferson who were close political allies and friendly neighbors. Wilson's thorough research provides a captivating and unforgettable portrayal of Dolley Madison and the times during which she lived.

This is one of many great books I have read with my great book club. So much history was recounted by this very good history writer who is deceased. Very interesting to read of Dolley Madison's quaker background and how it affected her values throughout life as well as about her personality, which was perfect for a white house hostess and president's wife. I learned a lot about Madison and Jefferson's relationship and the formulation of our country's revered documents by the founding fathers. Surprised me how the same fears existed back then of how easily we could lose our democracy if we throw away these principles.Product details

I thought it was very good, it gave you an insight into the times. She was amazing woman.
Dorothy Clark Wilson is an excellent writer. I have a greater understanding of the period of Dolley and James Madison's lives. I've also read Lincoln's Mothers and Lady Washington. Also, very good books! Couldn't put them down.
This book about Dolley Madison is not for just the gals to read it's for everyone. It gives insight into our founding fathers that few books can equal. You will learn much and be entertained as well.
This is a wonderful Christian author. And Dolley? Remarkable! The story of Dolley Madison, and the forgotten War of 1812...When the White House burned. And Dolley, while James was off to the front, with her help got every bit of all his long writings of the then, UNpublshed Federalist Papers, and all the huge oil paintings out of the White House before it burned. This little book, and the close friendship between Madison and Jefferson, made James Madison, my hero. If you love history as I do, you will be in tears when we were almost destroyed as a nation.
